AQUAMARINE TREATMENT & HARDNESS

When Aquamarine is first dug out of the ground, most of it is actually a greenish color. Traditionally it is then heated to drive off the green hues and bring out the range of blue colors most of us are used to associating with Aquamarine. But many people in recent years have enjoyed leaving the natural, greenish hues that nature created. We can provide you with either of these color hues.

Aquamarine is 7.5-8 on the Mohs Hardness Scale, making it very hardy for all types of jewelry including every day pieces like engagement rings. Below are some pieces of rough Aquamarine – just how they came out of the ground!

COLORS OF AQUAMARINE

As stated above, Aquamarine starts out in various shades of green. The first stone below shows a bit of that green hue. From there, Aquamarine comes in every shade of blue. One of the most special blues is shown below – it’s called a Santa Maria aquamarine! It’s a very, very rare color. Enjoy!

Aquamarines are a good, hardy choice for an engagement ring, but did you know that the even stronger Sapphire comes in various shades of blue too?! Here are some stunning sapphires from our collection! Sapphires cost a little more, but are 9 on the hardness scale (and sparkle more!) so it’s well worth it.

Or, if you’re looking for gorgeous blues in a smaller budget, Blue Topaz comes in many shades of blues as well. Just keep in mind that Blue Topaz is much more fragile and is not recommended for everyday wear.

AQUAMARINE JEWELRY CARE

As stated before, Aquamarine is very hardy and good for jewelry. You’ll just want to be more careful not to bump and hit it than you would be with a harder stone, like a diamond.
